Hi all

I've found a unit which would suit storing and working on my cars and for my brother in law to do some welding. The rates are manageable but I don't know what to expect for esb costs. The unit is three phase and the heavy users will be the welders. This will only be used a couple of times a week and at weekends.

Would any of you have a rough idea what we can expect?

Very hard to quantify what a welder will use in electricity.While on full time welding they would send the meter spinning flat out but you rarely if ever weld non stop.When I am welding on my cars I don't find the bill goes up too much.Your best bet is to talk to a welder/fabricator to see what they pay as they would have to factor in into the bill with work.The up side is that 3 phase equipment is usually cheaper to buy second hand as the market is smaller.

It's completely down to what and how much you're welding. Cars in general are light duty for big welders so if it's on a hobby basis I doubt you'd notice a massive increase in the bill from the welder.

In a garage compressors are worse than welders since they are used a lot more.

Thanks guys. A friend has just told me that he used to pay about 100 a month in a unit with five car enthusiasts running all manner of gear.

we have 3 of us in my unit im up there everyday and the other 2 would be up a good bit too. running welders ect are bill does be about 130 every 2 months
