NCT question

hello! I'll be soon getting my Mini, and I'm switching it over to an Irish reg. car, thats means a NCT has to be booked for it too.
How does a mini do on emmisions for the NCT? are there any other real problems with a mini and the NCT?
Thanks

Not a real big problem, Minis are good enough on emmisions, most garages will be able to adjust the mixture/timing to get you within the limits.

Is your car a 1994? Make sure it still has a cat on it and you shouldn't have a problem!

Thanks Marcos, how do they do that? how does that work? I'm new to minis, and cars is general, trying to find out more of the whys and hows, instead of just going "ok mr. mechanic make it go vroom vroom" I'm the nutter who'll be sitting there nodding as some sage mini nut shows me how the starter works! :D

You should get yourself a copy of the Haynes manual that covers your particular age of Mini, there have been a few editions and the older ones might not cover your model.
It has a step by step guide on maintenance and overhaul of all aspects of the Mini, from replacing a fuse to stripping an engine. You can pick them up fairly easy on ebay, should only cost a few quid.

You may have a bit of a problem there! Converters were neccessary on all cars manufactured after 1992....
Also, your car is more than likely injection and not carb so to make sure your car is running right, you can reset the ECU....can't remember exactly how to do it but I think you just leave the battery unconnected over night and it will reset when you connect it back up!

If you need to borrow a cat for the NCT - I have one in my shed.
My car did immensely well in the emissions. Just everything else was a problem!

I've a 94 Sprite that went down on emissions as the previous owner removed the cat when the big sports exhaust was put on. Mark would the cat you have work on this. How much are you looking for.

Well seeing as Babycakes jumped on in there I'd have to go and buy one. do they affect the car, appart from emmisions? any makes or types stand out?

Mark offered it to you first though!
They do hinder peformance a bit which is why people take them off in the first place...
There aren't any different makes or models...just Rover ones.

Apologies for hi-jacking your post, didn't mean to jump in like that.
You could be lucky with the NCT guy that tests the car. Although mine was a 94 they used the emission specs for a pre 94 car. It was only at the retest that they said it must have a cat.
Best of luck with it.
