Balk ring on 2nd gear has worn out, very common problem , Ive just done my '96 Equinox . Although the balk ring itself isn't expensive the labour involved is. Engine out ,remove gearbox, dismantal total gearbox then put it all back together. Proberbly the biggest job on a mini.
