Hi folks,
any of ye here have experience with adding turbo to non turbo engine.
ye ask why. my 7 porter has loads more power but i got addicted and it ain't enough. so turbo is on my mind now.
i did try to setup account on trurbo mini's but it wouldn't let me.
Reason i ask is i have a few questions etc, so any knowledgeable people on here could shed some light on.
1. people are on about a certain compression ratio should be used with turbo's. they usual state static CR. which in my eyes is the upmost useless number ever. Its the dynamic CR thats important as that is what the engine will actually see.
2. i went to the trouble of working out the dynamic CR on my 7 porter.
the static CR on my 7 porter is. 10.72:1
the dynamic CR is 8.66:1
calculated pumping pressure is 181.7
this is all calculated based on dimension and actual timing of my RE13P cam.
3. i now wonder could i get away with running a turbo along with it all, since its an alum head it can deal with the heat better.
4. what turbo should i use,i had one of those on ebay in mind like this one

Paul hickey aka "merlin" did a good bit of it back a few years ago. I don't know what he's doing now however.
From what I understand you need to drop the compression ratio and fit new pistons, rods, hardens crank and oil jets for the pistons are needed too. I also hear you need a different head set up as the valves can't hack it.
Very expensive mod :p that's before you even look at the transmission!!

As someone who has built and run many a turbo'd mini many engine sizes and variations you need to get yourself onto turbominis.co.uk there is so much information and related build threads ( including 7 port turbo's etc)... jump on there and get reading up as there are so many different variables and options that it would be difficult to include everything in one post. Also another good starting point is a website run by turbophil from turbo minis which gives great detail

Oh I only have more questions now lol.
Anyways will see how it goes thinking if doing a seperate project like a 1100 turbo or something like that.

Deffo get on to turbominis for the best info and advice.
The GT15 or GT17 turbos seem the way to go these days although hybred T2 are popular for big power.
I presume the 7 port is running race valves which should be ok with the heat.
Turbos tend to run milder cams which may effect your dynamic compression so deeper dish pistons are the norm to lower compression. Standard crank and block can handle turbo.
