new head and carb needle+spring, now wont start.
hi all,
just put a 12g295 head and stage one kit (exhaust carb needle, spring and filter.) on to my 998 and now its not starting.
fuel is reaching the float bowl but seems to be getting no further.
any thoughts on possible problems??

This sounds familiar

Remove dashpot and piston, check the needle is fitted flush with the bottom of the piston.Place a straw over the top of the jet and blow, you should hear bubbles in the floatchamber.

Tappet clearance depends on cam. If you havn't changed the standard cam than 12 thou. should be right.
Are you getting a spark?

Still running standard cam.
There was no fule getting to the engine so have the carb out cleaning it and going to check the plugs now see if there wet.
How would I know if there's spark?
The plugs were working fine before I took them out so just assumed they would be ok to go back in.
Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

Remove a plug then connect the plug back up to the ignition lead, rest the plug on the top of the head to earth it (don't hold it with your paw unless you fancy a bit of a shock) get someone to turn the engine over while you watch the plug for a spark.

will try that when i get a spare minute.
ye the rockers were too tight and push rods had bent.
would there be any issues with using a rocker and push rod set from a 1275???

have a set from an 850 aswell any use??
ignore that had a quick google and it seems they will.
would i be as well swapping over the rockers and rods as the are mated together or will it make much difference after a few miles of wear??
