Woody
Actually if you want to use an 8 or 7 port with filter you have 3 choices
1 get longer grp front end or a clubby front ent
2 buy a 8 port bonnet which has a buldge
3 do what I do. Diy
When I looked around almost all have cut a hole in the bonnet to make space for fuel rail / filters.
Actually there is a 4th way but rather pointless.
you could run shorter trumpets that will loose you up to 10 hp and the same with torque. Or smaller filter again loosing about 5 hp. But that would fit under round nose.
I'm building this for power and not to win a beauty contest.

What was the problem with the air box you were making?

One needs 20mm clearance at the entry for the air box. By the time the filter was in with a decent bel mouth shape on I had 5 mm left to the gearbox.

That would have the space too but don't like the look of those at all.

Not longer but the bulge gives a little more space (every bit counts) . The bulge wouldn,t be as wide as yours. If you use the airbox could you not sit the original filter beside the servo.

Not enough space there woody. Absolute minimum filter size for my application is too big so am doomed. Might just fit some bonnet spot lamps which will hide it all.

Thought about the spotlights to. A few curves will look better with the MK1 front.

Haven't found a spider lamp pod that would suit yet don't like the one that goes all the way across the bonnet and most of them kinda dive into the bonnet straight after. I'd need something that would be the same size as the bulge on my bonnet. If you see something by all means show me the light.

Right bonnet is primed and sanded. Went for dzus fasteners in the end. So welded in some plates in the corners at the front. Holes drilled into the bonnet to take the fasteners

Image

May not be the best looking but it covers everything under the bonnet and the air filter has plenty of room to breath.

You seem to have similar ideas to me except with the money to do it and a shell that's solid! That head looks sexy!

Hi kona,

Yes it sure costs a lot proof of which is my empty account. Lol.
Been saving for that head for ages.
She'll wasn't so solid to start with. New boot, Sills and full front end including wings all had to be replaced. Door skins were gone too.

You know what you're right macker. What good is saving it in a bank when it goes bust much rather spend it.

Hmm spraying wasn't a so good idea last night the paint froze as opposed to dry and that was with the 2pack paint and winter hardener. Heater tripped the fuse so back to sanding and go again with new heater

If the paint isn't dry yet when you're rubbing it back here's a tip,
Use a bar of soap!
rub the bar of soap over the area that you are rubbing and keep doing it till you're finished :D
(obviously that is if you are rubbing it down with rubbing paper)

Ya lost me. What will that do. Is it the same as using soapy water and 800 wet n dry paper.

Right got the paint done second time round.
Bonnet done and this time heaters on and working

Some touch up on the car for the dzus fastener brackets alla DIY
Image

Only thing is I must have had an air bubble in the gelcoat of the fiberglass
So now I have a hole in the paint
Image
Now just have to wait and buff it all.
But the throttle bodies back in and get my wiring sorted and new fuel line in the engine bay. Make up a new throttle cable and finally get it started and retuned. Mind ye the weather is a bit dodgy to do road tuning by yourself.

Doesn't look half bad now that it's painted

And it's held nice n tight by the dzus fasteners.

Mind ye I would still prefer something that would look like light pods but not like the big bulky ones.

Still not sure about the astetics but the quality of your work is excellent. Maybe the next monthly technical night could be a lesson in lost foam fiberglass :D
