Hi

We are seriously thinking about doing this, Me, Wife and daughter.
Just wondering why no one was thinking of using Brittany Ferries?
Driving from Listowel, it would save us about 3 hours driving in Ireland going from Cork instead of Roslare.
Is there any plans to convey, meet up on route?
Are people thinking of camping, hotels, combo of both on route?
Just looking for ideas. Normally travel to France in a Landrover 110, so packing will take some thought.
1970 mini Clubman is a rolling shell at the moment, but bodywork has been done, ready for paint.

Cheers

Neil

Neil,

Just checked the prices and dates for Brittany Ferries. You can only travel on the Saturday before and Friday after which means two extra days accommodation. The equivalent rate is 408 Euros including cabins.

The main reason for choosing Irish Ferries is that for several of us, Tesco vouchers will pay for most or all of the return ferry. Brittany don't do a Tesco deal and are generally more expensive.

Bit early for booking just yet but as for accomodation,it will be camping at the IMM and there are plenty of good camp sites in France. The choice of driving in France is stay on motorways, pay tolls and spend less time driving or go on national routes,no tolls but use more petrol and takes longer.I plan to do motorway in the morning to get mileage done before lunch and national route after til I get to the camp site.I am also planning on spending a day or two in Normandy doing the Operation Overlord beaches and museums.

yay! or "Zoot Alors" as they might say. i did a bit of that before in and around Saint-Lô and Sainte-Mère-Église until my travelling companions kicked up; a fine opportunity to do it again.

Myself and the No 1 son played the St Lo level in call of duty 3 before staying overnight there and trying to retrace our steps the next day, much to the boredom of the ladies in the party. But yes a visit to Normandy wouldn't be complete without a museum/beach/war grave visit, and don't forget the bayeux tapestry is smack bang in the middle of Normandy too, never enough time. As far as travelling in France goes, look into the etap and F1 etc hotel chains they're cheap and easy to get to/find when you need overnight stops. I'm still gutted that this happens in the middle of my exams. :(

Only 10 days on the contanent ,3 of which will be IMM means you'll be driving a fair distance every day. I was hoping to spend some time in Italy visiting some of the car museems.

Struggling to find a flight out of the area on the Monday. Only flight I can find is Aer Lingus from Nice to Dublin at 3.25pm but it's 285 miles from the IMM site but it's on the way home.

Any suggestions?

It appears to be possible to fly from both Pisa and Genoa on Monday May 20th to Stansted and get a connecting flight to Dublin. Not overly expensive either.

Joey,

There will be trains in Italy and if you're lucky, someone might collect you from the airport. There's always a way if you want to.
