2000 people would be a decent ballpark. Joebe1 would be disappointed with anything less considering all the campaigning he's been doing on behalf of the club for the past 3 IMMs.
Taking Switzerland, it was based at a local airfield with all Minis camped on either side of the main concrete runway or on either side of a parallel access road. EVERY Mini had its front wheels on concrete.

Hi, I have only been in the front grounds of this place so I have no idea what the rest is like but how about the National Show Centre between the Airport and Swords. My company years ago used to have the xmas party's here and it could hold 1000 plus sitting down.
http://www.nationalshowcentre.ie/index.php?q=node/1
The only thing is it's north of Dublin and possible issue maybe is having a late bar. There is a big retail park down the road (10 minute walk). There a lots of hotel's and B&B's, Swords and Santry are 10 minutes away driving, Dublin Airport across the road. Good road access, maybe traffic issue's at peak time's, but I believe there's a plan to up grade the surrounding road's.
Thanks

That s a brilliant question keith,
The way I m looking at it is, things have moved on a great deal on the Island of Ireland in the last 20 years. I would expect a much greater response from the north than they would have had 20 years ago. Portrush get in excess of 400 minis every year, we get 100 + in Boyle, I d expect at least that if not more from the UK, and you ll always get the hardcore people from Europe, but the response has been great from all the Europeans over that last few years
I d be disappointed if we did nt get 1500 minis

anyway only reported what was in the Mini World, BUT if you are going to go for it, you can be sure that Ron and I will help anyway we can,
Eg: if you want to Mail me posters I can print them and take them to events over here, let us know if there is any thing we can do to help,,

Don't worry MH, the catalyst for this goes back to a mysterious appearance of some "IMM2017 IRELAND?" graffiti on the ground at the IMM in Switzerland in 2010, it's being slowly gathering momentum since then.

Looks like there will be a bid for IMM2016 to be held in Osnabruck in Germany, which would bode well for a "distant" IMM in Ireland for the following year.
Be handy for us too as we know someone who lives only up the road

Did you know that next year's IMM in 55th Anniversary of the Mini and therefore is its 'Emerald' anniversary?
So we can work a few ideas to promote our IMM 2017 bid.

I remember and have photographic evidence of the graffiti in Switzerland, the teeshirts in Hungary, and I still have a green and white ball from Italy with Ireland 2017 on it... guess that helped with the rumours. So is this a definite, official 'yes the IMOC is going for it'? If so I'll be there and will help however I can.

Time to kickstart this thread as time is ticking:
The club is actively looking for potential locations for an ideal IMM site.
Ideally, the location needs to have the following:
1. Ample space for up to 1000 Minis & tents, a very large marquee/hall to accommodate up to 2000 people along with catering and party area, traders area, toilets, an exhibition area, shower blocks, and a whole load more space to be on the safe side;
2. It must be 100% weatherproof. It can't be a big empty field. Fields get soggy when wet. There must be sufficient roadway around the camping so that EVERY mini has its front wheels on solid ground so that if the heavens open, we're not looking for a fleet of tractors to pull them out. Recent IMMs in Holland & Switzerland used a test track and an airfield very effectively, Birmingham used a big field and was nearly cancelled the day before the event due to bad weather, Italy used the side of a hill and was a muck bath;
3. The location must be near a town where IMMers can buy food/supplies/beer;
4. Not everyone wants to camp so there must either be self-catering accommodation on site or hotels/B&Bs nearby;
5. Ideally, the location should be near local sites of interest so that IMMers can go off on day trips.
Keep the suggestions coming.

Weston Airport in Lucan or Mondello Park in Naas

Thanks for the suggestions however Weston is a working corporate airport while Mondello is expensive with nowhere nearby to keep 2000 in food & beer. Remember we need a venue for almost a week.
