If you reshell a car in Ireland, you can keep the old Reg Number, but you have to pay the VRT and Vat on it as if it were a whole brand new car. Even if you do all the work yourself, the VAT is charged (somehow) on the number of hours it is reckoned to take to rebuild the car.
That was the (VAT) story 20+ years ago when I was looking at reshelling a Mini with a Mini Marcos shell.

There used to be a thread about that car on MR, as far as I remember it's another 83/84 English import.
A fully carbon fiber Mini Marcos shell weighs just 7.25kg.

Seriously, if your going to bullshit you might aswell do it right. Designer "Mary Quant" edition came out in 1988. A person has possibly stuck plates of an older mini to possibly bypass the VRT or to get cheap tax, tis really annoying at times.

I agree Keith. This is so obviously wrong though, while it may be possible to have an imported legitimate reshell it isn't possible to transfer an old Irish reg to a newer car.

I have no problem with a reshell job when every thing off the old car goes onto the new but correct Mk shell. But I go mad when someone just changes the number plates
