The B1A towbar fits all mini saloons (not vans or estates) from '59 to '98.

Not sure how strong the rear lip (behind the bumper) would be on most mini's nowadays.

The EC type approval standards came into law from 1st August 1998. Any car first registered from this date onwards must have a type-approved towbar fitted. This means that you CAN make your own towbar for a mini (unless it was one of the very, very last ones).

Reply from Malcolm's Caravans, Irish Witter stockists:

"Hi Billy
Witter have this item in stock although limited stock left so maybe pass that information on to your members. I get the impression they will not make these again.

Price as follows

B1A @ 85.00 + vat
50mm Ball @ 6.50 + vat
Carriage to Cork 6.00 + vat

Total price including vat delivered 117.97 euro

If you require a pre wired socket kit, there would be an additional cost of 8.47 euro incl vat.

Delivery time would be approximately one week.

I trust this information will be of help to you.

Regards

My own opinion is that this is as good as UK pricing (approx £88) which you also have to add delivery from the UK to.

Would there be interest in a group buy to try to get leverage on the price?

Indespension are also stockists of witter.
Give Kieran Joyce a ring at their Limerick depot (061-225700), give him an idea of quantity required and see what sort of price he can do for you.

Malcolms in Dublin were on again this morning to see if anyone else wanted these towbars. No one else appears to be able to source them. Does anyone else want to purchase and I'll try to get something on the price. I wouldn't expect them to budge just for two.

Kieran came back to me today with a quote of €143 for the Witter towbar so Malcolms' in Dublin are definitely better value.

I was onto my steel supplier today and they have 3 lenghts of 50x30 box iron left, he thinks they have been there for the last 10 years + as he is there 10 years and has never sold a lenght.

Is there any body around the D24 area that I could trial fit a towbar when I get 1 together ???

This is for a '98 Cooper which has to tow a trailer to Switzerland for the IMM in June.
