Thats the beauty of a blasting cabinet, maybe when the pickup is finished you might take up the blasting as a nixer. :D.Great to see progress with the pickup Steve. Not enough commercials around these days.

Looking at making up my own cabinet soon, the one I have at the minute is a bit small and restrictive.
I am also looking into Dry Ice Blasting, a mate has a large garage that I can rent and am just waiting on information and pricing to come back to me from the suppliers.

Well had a bit of spare time on my hands yesterday so I got it into my head to strip the drivers door and see actually how bad it was but I ended up stripping the skin off as the bottom of the door has seen better days.

I'll be looking at the passenger side one next and also the door I bought of Woody so hopefully 1 of them will be better than the drivers side.

I have been looking at Somerfords prices for door skins and the have 3 options

1. Genuine skin @ £54
2. Non-Gen skin @ £32
3. Non-Gen Aluminum skin @ £66

Apart from weight what other advantage is the aluminum one ???

It won't rust ?????

You'll probably have to bond it to the frame

You will have to use etch primer to prime it.

Aren't they just for racing purposes though ?

If the aluminium ones are aimed at racing I would think they are thiner and easier to dent. Need advice from the racing gang.

While I had the Cooper S brake setup apart to check the pistons and seals I decided to give them a blast, its amazing what 10 mins in a blast cabnet will do.
I was in contact with a company in Waterford that might be able to adonize (think thats the right spelling) them so just waiting on them to get back to me.

Never saw this sort of stud lock before but I suppose they had no liquid stud lock in the 60's.
Looks like they drilled a 1/8" hole in the bolt and inserted a piece of nylon or plastic.

Yeah quite common in both aircraft engineering and racing, the idea is that a S/S wire is tied through the hole, on a race car it is there as a form of locking or scrutineering sealing device, on a plane its there to stop the bolt from falling onto someones head in the event is fell out.

They were very sneaky when they were putting these door together as some of the spot welds are hidden behind outer panels but after about 40 mins I got the door stripped.

Things have come to a full stop with the pickup at the minute.
Space and time is my biggest enemy so I have been in contact with a mini specialist about the bodywork
and am looking at maybe this side of Christmas or the new year when they will be ready to take the pickup on.

Both subframes are ready to fit after both been fully stripped, sandblasted, seam-welded and painted.
Suspension got the same treatment, blasted and painted then were fitted with all new bearings and bushes (thanks to TMG)
Brakes, the rear were mostly replaced with new parts and the front discs and calipers were supplied by TMG (thanks again)
New fuel tank sourced again got a light blasting and was painted.

Other than the above all the parts now have a nice thick protective coating of dust on them. :D :D :D

Will be putting it back to the original red if I can source it, as for engine wise that still has to be decided.
I have a choice at the minute of going for a 998cc, 1089cc (i think) or a 1275cc, i'll have to be talking to Paul (Merlin)
soon to see which engine would suit my needs better.
