i now have her running and engine pulling well, however i seem to have some suspension trouble.
under acceleration at higher speeds i get oversteer.
For example 3rd gear floor it and overtake a car manoeuvre type of thing.
coming out from own lane to the overtaking position car oversteer slightly.
then when coming back into lane after overtaking, the car is really twitchy and needs a firm hand and slight double correction (pendulum effect). This is not nice on a road car.
I Seem to have a nice setup for say a rally car or track car but for a road car its too involved.
Don't get me wrong i like a nice balance car but this handles more like a rear wheel drive car at high speed on the wet when accelerating.

Anyways i went and checked my settings
i am on 165 10" tires
ride height is standard height at front, rear is same height as front
Front:
i run no toe at front
camber -1 to -1.5
caster 4
Rear:
toe in at rear only small amount though.
camber 0 to -0.25

At least that what they were when i had it checked at the last alignment session.

i wonder if i have a corner weight problem. it is on high-lo's and what i did is set both sides to the same length.

Anyone got some ideas.

I run 13's with 165 cross section. I know they ride different to 10's but they probably a lot less forgiving of and accentuate imperfections more than 10's might soak up with their larger side wall. I've found almost neutral camber with only an accent on -ve camber, <15mins, and slight toe out to complement the rear toe in works well for me.

Does toe out in the front not promote more agility?

incidentally what kinda pressure should i run these tyres on?
i have it set to 33 psi all round?
Any of the rally boy on here could shed some light on it?

Toe out does give a quicker turn in on the corners and also counters under steer, it's good to have some. I have found that it's camber that gives ropey handling, tramlining, torque steer and un-predictability on uneven surfaces. Castor, I wouldn't go over 3° it just makes the steering heavy and tiresome in the corners, not want you want from a mini. This is just my experience from using a mini on the road for daily enjoyment.

So remove some camber in the front should help it then.

And give it a little toe out. Another point to remember when deciding the amount of -ve camber you want is that the greater the castor angle, the greater the dynamic -ve camber when you turn the wheel.

ye will laugh now, I'm actually getting used to the way it is now, such a laugh on the back roads when you chuck it in and you come out sideways lol
don't think the local copper is too happy about that.

Is there any Dyno closer to me then Westward.

Don't get me wrong they are top guys there but i just want to do a power run and see how i got on.
just don't seem to get the time to get to them.

i remember reading about someone having one in Galway but i couldn't find anything on the old interweb.

Right NCT is due so thought i'd get it onto the old test station for emissions,
the achilles heel of any tuned / hot mini.

Well i'll be damned i thought
my mini has no cat and it would nearly pass cat emissions.
on a 5 port i was struggling passing the emissions every time with high hydro carbons.
well looks like the 7 port comes good in other departments too.

did my own fuel consumption test over the last few days too and it did 7.14l/100km thats 32.9 mpg. and that was not going easy on it either.

maybe i should go more easy on the go pedal and see what it does then.

Anyways the loudness in the cabin while cruising comes from the roof panel itself. it seems to resonate when engine is at 3000 rpm or so.
i do remember vaguely that there used to be some sort of sound deadening in the roof of the car. shouldn't have thrown it out. damn it.

anyone got any pic of whats on the inside of the roof sound proofing wise.

What cam are you running? That HC figure is well withing limits. The 7 port looks the job.

Am using a RE13PP cam which has about 272 inlet and same in exhaust lca is 104.5
Dialled in at 102.75.

right had a chat and test drive today with a friend of mine in my mini.
as i still think mine goes sideways way too easy.
so there we were driving on some twisty bit of a road while i showed him what i meant by my lift off oversteer problem.

Hmmmmm he said while i'm man handling the wheel
Mate: Did it ever occur what speed you're doing? Going into the corner here.
Me: No not really i mean its a mini should hold it like.
Mate: Right lets take my car around this corner. at your speed.

Well a couple of minutes later in his car not a mini obviously lowered eurobox.

his car: same corner, same speed, ....... straight on....... ditch... grass..... side road .... squeeel.

Lift off oversteer, check the bolts that connect the steering arm to the hub on each side.

They are tight as a fishes hole. Sorry

Turns out that I still have some toe out in the rear as I was in for the NCT today
Mind ye the emissions after my new setup were brilliant without cat 0.47 co and 170 hc
Goes to show that cats are not really needed

Ah its bad form in fairness.. I hope they dont have any luck for it. Hopefully people would have seen it advertised on here previously and won't get suckered. Its a beautiful mini by the way, would have loved to see it in the flesh.
