Insurance

Post by madjackjr »

Just looking for some advice. Recently I had to buy an Astra as an every day car due to repairs I need to make to the mini. Now that I’m nearly done it’s time to talk insurance now I’d like to keep both cars as I do a lot of mileage and I don’t want to subject the mini to this. So I would like to know what some of you have done in regards to insuring two cars. Baring in mine my mini is only a 96 not vintage is there any way of insuring both with out braking the bank any cheap insurance companies etc.
Thanks
John

AXA will issue a Second Car policy. This is an extra policy as well as your first one. The only problem is where you apply for the policy. If you go to DUblin , they will treat it as a totally new policy and disallow any no claims bonus you might have on your main one. A local branch might give you the benefit of your NCB , which brought mine down to €300 on an '87 Moke.

I checked this out a while back. AXA wouldn't quote me for a 2nd car, Allianz quoted me €600. That was on a 1989 Mini 1000. A lot depends on who you get talking to

I'll check Allianz & Axa

Like others have posted, in my case the insurance co. refused to recognize my no claims bonus for a second policy, although the NCB speaks more to a drivers attitude and care i would have thought. So i put the 1275 cooper on the first policy with full NCB and just shopped around for a policy on the 998. There were discounts for a "second car" but not as much as being a named driver on my partners policy/car.
When i sell the 998 i WILL replace it with a pre-79 car and do the full vintage/no-nct/small tax thing.
shop around: its remarkable how much latitude the insurance companies have if they want your money!

Why don't you just temporary transfer your policy from the Astra onto the Mini when you need it ???
The insurance company will get the picture sooner or later.

This is kind of obvious but I hope you told them its an old Mini Cooper as two companies gave me quotes for the BMW ones instead and I nearly had a heart attack.
