Hi guys,
I've a 91 city with ripped steering rack gaiters so I'm going to replace. However, I'd imagine I should reblube the rack.
Haynes manual says to jack up on drivers side and then squirt it in and tighten up gaiter.
I'm unsure of which one to go with. Haynes says:
"Early models" 0.2 litres of Gear oil SAE90EP
"Later models" 0.1 litre Sterak semi fluid grease.
Haynes identifies "early models" as those fitted with black gaiters as opposed to clear. So... I should go with SAE90 gear oil so? Seems like 91 is late enough for "early model".

Thanks woddy. I fitted the gaiters today but didn't out anything in them. There seemed to be grease still in there and was going to leave well enough alone. What do u think? I can always slide gaiter down and add more.woody wrote:Yours is a late model and uses semi fluid grease.

The proper grease is very fluid like and will have leaked out. Jack the car up on one side and remove the gaiter on that side. Use a syringe to put the grease into the rack and move the steering left and right.

OK thanks woody, I'll top it up so and I'll pick up some of that grease. I was going yo upload a pic but didn't have any luck for some reason on mobile as there seemed to be a bit in it still in it.woody wrote:The proper grease is very fluid like and will have leaked out.
