Basically due to finishing college and getting a real job, I had to relocate down the west a few years ago, so the mini was used to get down until I got enough $$ for a modern car (clio 182).

Unfortunatley this was pretty much what pushed the car from needed a bit of welding to needing a miracle.

During college I did my thesis on retro fitting fuel injection to the A series so it is running a little special engine under the bonnet.

Canems engine management
ford EDIS coilpack
x2 mikuni throttle bodies from a kawasaki 1100
and all the other bits and bobs needed to get it up and running. It also recieved some lovely new AE hepolite pistons, rings, big ends, clutch, lightened flywheel.

all this was fitted in a week on my driveway  (in reality its a pain in the hole)

Now that Im in a bit better place with money and back in Dublin , Ive been able to address the state of the shell, which will involve a reshell.

Heres a few snaps of the donor car, last taxed in 1995 and all the bodywork done by somebody else

Not a spot of rust on it.

Currentley looking at quotes for some light bodywork(dents) and paint in rosso corsa 2011 and a white roof :)

Exciting times.

Been mad busy with work and got stuck on permanent nights for most the summer which screwed up any plans. Anyways on a better shift now and have eventually got moving on the project.
First step, strip down the Cooper, Which is deteriorating at a impressive rate now, im not so sure if the outer sills are still actually structure lol.

Heres the Damage:

Anyways I cracked on taking apart most of the engine bay and baggin and taggin every nut and bolt that came off. Im not worried about the condition of the parts as they will be getting a refurb.

Needed to remove the exhaust, which as per usual was welded onto it. Really need to get a Stainless steel exhaust.

Damn speed bumps!! :(

Only 1 Damaged Lambda sensor, although look how rich it was running!

Image

Clutch and brake fluid! Mouldy!

It would be too far gone if it was mine, I would be tempted on a re-shell to keep it but the regs aren't as favourable here as the UK.

Good luck.

Good luck.

All depends on the labour cost, the panels alone I'm looking at 3k.

The reshell maybe the only option.

The problem is that getting a better shell than that is going to cost money and it will probably still need work.At least if you do your own shell properly and rust proof it,you know what you have.

Ok a little update. The car has been sent away to hopefully have all the rust cut out of it. Its a fairly comprehensive list of panels that are needed. Hoping to have the car back for the IMM next summer. :)

A little update, the car has had half the crap cut out, however theres quite a bit more to go, i knew it was rotten but not as rotten as the pictures show, the shell was pretty much scrap.
Hopefully its saveable.

Some more progress as the shell is beginning to get some fresh steel back into it. I have to say the shell really was beyond sensible repair. If it wasnt a cooper it would have been scrapped, fortunatley it is.
At the stage now where im trying to get a garage sourced to rebuild it. I also have to pick out a colour, im not sure to keep it standard flame red or change it up?

You need to use a third party hosting site, photobucket is still available but is now a subscription service, there are other websites that are still free, you could try postimage.org for example.

A fully carbon fiber Mini Marcos shell weighs just 7.25kg.
