Hi Tintin,

For my welding applications, I bought a Clarke MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welder. I think they are now also known as MAGS welders.

You can either get small gas bottles that are one use or you can get a refillable bottle ( You can either rent these bottles or buy them outright and just pay for the refills.) I bought mine outright as I knew over 3 years renting, I'd own it and planned to do more welding in the future. The gas works as a shield for the weld and is usually made up mainly of argon.

It all depends on how much welding you plan to do really.

For consumables then, I use http://www.wholesaleweldingsupplies.ie/

I've ordered from the roughly five times and each time everything has been perfect. Once, one item was out of stock, but they told me it would be delivered the following month which it was.

Hope this helps a bit.

Mig is the easiest to master and probably the beat for cars. You want a 150-180 amp one with gas. Gasless is IMO absolutely terrible in comparison.

Clarke have a good name in the hobby world but if you can get a good second hand Miller you're set. A 10-15 year old Miller will outlive any of the hobby stuff

My welder is a Clarke one. Think it's a 161TM Turbo...or something along those lines.
It's three phase power. Seems to do the job fairly well so far.
