Performance question....

Post by MrMiniMan »

Howya,

New to Mini ownership and only have my car a few months. Not been out in it too much due to the sh*tty weather. It's a '96 Cooper. Just wondering what I should be expecting in terms of performance, particularly top speed. I feel like it's pushing hard at about 80kmph. What is 'normal' for such a car? (Sorry for the pretty stupid question!).

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.
I have a '96 Equinox and it comfortably gets up to 120kph but above that a few passangers or a head wind can make progress slow. First thing to check with any SPi is that the 4 vacumn hoses and the elbows are 100%, no cracks and fitting tight. What fuel consumption are you getting, should be 30-45 mpg depending on how you drive. Is the air filter clean?

No fuel consumption figures yet as the fuel gauge is dodgy

I'm not mechanically minded so I'll have to get out the Haines manual and check does pipes :D

The car is nippy enough and accelerates pretty well.....just seems to rut of steam at about 80kmph.

Thanks

Dont need fuel gauge.
Fill to the brim and record mileage.
After about 200 miles fill to the brim again and record mileage and how many litres of petrol it used.
Mileage is a good indication of how well an engine is preforming.
