suspension recommendation

Post by pump101 »

Hi everyone.. just wondering what everyones opinions are on suspension up grades. Theres just so many and il like to know whats the best.
The mini will be running a tuned 1398cc suzuki swift gti engine with custom subframe, running 12in wheels , 4 pot etc.

1. There are a few hi lo kits but which is best?
2. Are coilovers worth considering?
3. What shocks are best? Gaz, kyb etc.
4. What about camber? Is it worth putting in adjustable camber brackets?

The car will be for occasional use and for track days etc.

any advice greatly appreciated.

Ian

They were a bit dear but I got a set of AVOs for mine and they transformed the car. Very adjustable too. They were €280 if I recall.

I'm running hi-los all around and i recently added a set of the minispares adjustable rear camber brackets. If the mini is for road use only then I suppose you can't go hugely wrong if you get yourself a set of decent shocks be they Gaz or koni or AVO. The nice thing about adjustable camber is that you can go back to standard for normal use and set the camber for track. If it's going to be on the track even a little then I'd suggest you go with the AVOs or another lowered set of good shocks. Talk to Lloyd Hutchinson in Delgany, he'll recommend a good set that fits the bill.

Wouldn't bother with the camber brackets TBH

Do you reckon rear camber brackets are a waste and not of much benefit?

On a road car yes, but as he said it would be used on track as well. I wouldn't bother with them at all if you're not chasing times on a track either. You also need to have them set every time you go from track to road (or never change them at the cost of tyres) and unless you are able to do this yourself it would cost you every time.
