New member from Dublin *mini found*
Hi guys, I'm on the lookout for a mini, looking to buy asap, I have between 2-2.5k to spend.
I've never owned a mini but it's a car I've always wanted, I'm looking for something I can put my own touches to, ideally a classic for insurance reasons.
I've been trawling donedeal and adverts and there is nothing I really like within my budget, is there anything out there that hasn't been advertised?
I'll keep an eye on this thread if anyone has anything, thanks

Re: New member from Dublin looking for a mini
Hi Wills
Your very welcome to the forum, great to hear of a new member looking to buy a mini. My advice would be dont rush into buying a car! you have a very nice budget and there is plenty of scope to buy a good car to start with. Donedeal is grand but you would want some experience to spot the lemons, and just me there out there. My advice would be ring Martin Murphy, he s the eastern rep, he will put you in contact with members in your locality, get to know them first ask the questions and I m sure you will find a car within the club.
I m sure we ll cross paths soon enough

Will,
Welcome to your forum. To answer your question, feel free to post a link to a car you are interested in. You may find it belongs to someone on this forum, or indeed that it's a car that people are aware of that you shouldn't touch with a 40-foot pole.

Re: New member from Dublin looking for a mini
Cheers Billy, I had a look at this car yesterday http://www.adverts.ie/car/austin/mini/1 ... ty/4619160
It seems like a good little car but I did find filler just at the front of the drivers door, the panel gap between the door and wing isn't even at all, the is also a spot of rust on the passenger side sill.
Thinking about going to have a look at this today too http://www.adverts.ie/car/mini/other-mi ... 00/4873471
At the minute I don't know anything about it.
Am I being to optimistic hoping to find something 100% rust free within my budget? I'm not to bad working on cars myself but when it comes to bodywork I haven't a clue

I might have one for you. I'll get back to you tomorrow. There is someone coming on the run tomorrow that was talking about selling their clubman. I'll message you tomorrow and let you know.

Re: New member from Dublin looking for a mini
I don't know either car personally but a few points to bear in mind. The tax on the '86 car will be more than €90 euros. You can check on motortax.ie for the exact figure for a 1-litre. Otherwise it looks like a nice car from the photos.
The yellow car looks like it's led a harder life but that's purely from looking at the photos. As was said earlier, come along to a few club events, talk to owners, and learn more about the pitfalls of the cars. Remember if old cars were perfect, there would be no 141-regs on the road.
Don't rush into buying a Mini. EVERY car will have rust or will have had repairs. Unlike modern cars, Minis were never galvanised.

If you look closely under the nct cert on the brown one, you can see rust bubbles on the scuttle.
Scuttle decay can prove a costly fix.

Re: New member from Dublin looking for a mini
That looks like one tidy mini, check usual spots!!! Around all rubbers specially scuttle an top of all rear windows. Pull bk the door rubbers check under carpets an don't be afraid to poke it wit a screw driver underneath any sign if rust is €€€ knocked off the price, check subframes and mounts/bushes, if it drives good and has minor rust then it's a goody
If it's bigger than a mini it's not a mini
