Re: MPI to Mayfair Engine Conversion
Just a quick replay as I'm rushing out.
Basicly there are 3 options.
1. Transfare everything from the MPi into the Mayfair including immobilizer as this controls ecu. You can exclude the SRS as it has a seperate loom.
2. Transfare engine and some of fuel system and run an aftermamket ignition and injection system (ie megasquirt) that you can programme yourself.
3. Transfarer engine and fit a carb and programmable ignition (megajolt) . This is what I have done.

Re: MPI to Mayfair Engine Conversion
To the best of my knowlodge I'm the only one in Ireland to have done this transplant but I was hoping that some others would have jumped in at option 2. The main thing you have to concider is that both Rover and Lucas are gone and any future problems with parts may be an issue. The ECU carries a digital code which it must recieve from the alarm before it will operate so if you ever need to replace either part you need access to programming equipment . Other members here are using aftermarket ecu's with injection systems and to me this is the best option although it will add an initial expence. You could still fit the entire MPi system and change the ECU at a later date. The reason I did what I did is simply that I had access to all the parts I used and Just wanted to see if and how it could be done.

Would I have to cut out a bit of the front panel or could I use the side mounted radiator thats in my mayfair at the moment

Re: MPI to Mayfair Engine Conversion
I wouldn't use the standard rad as the MPi runs much hotter than the older engines. I use a MS special 2 core rad and an electric fan. If I had all the parts I'd go with the front rad.

Does anyone know where I could get a boss so I can put my wooden steering wheel in the car when its finished because the mpi boss is different because of the airbag

Re: MPI to Mayfair Engine Conversion
no updates as of yet woody, my photobucket account isnt working for some reason, so ill try get that sorted & go from there. time being another factor also. my advice leroy is to swap the full loom over, it'll seem like a nightmare at the time but its easier than splitting the loom, at least i think it is anyways. the subframes were used because they were in better nick and the mayfair subframe was an automatic one.
