Inspection location on clutch/flywheel side

Post by Scoobasteve7 »

Hi forum,

I saw in the HAYNES manual that there is a section on the clutch or flywheel that you can see through the inspection cap in relation to engine position etc.

However I have no markings as far as I can tell on my clutch.

I currently have the engine on the floor. I hand cranked it with the inspection cap open, then removered the clutch/flywheel cover so I could see the whole clutch. Still couldnt see any markings.

It's a replacement metro turbo clutch if that makes any difference??

Thanks forum! :)

The marking you are looking for should be on the flywheel, not the clutch.
You normally need a mirror to even see the TDC mark so I would'nt worry too much if you can't see it.
Also not all cars have this mark stamped on the flywheel, so you could spend ages looking for something that isn't there.

edit; just spotted that you have the engine out. This does away with the need for a mirror as you can look straight in through the inspection hole.

Thanks for that mgb1978. Yeah, its handy having it out on the floor in one way! :)

Well, myself and one of the lads checked the entire clutch and flywheel with the cover off so it mustn't be there.

I also have an engine I'm breaking at the moment and we checked that too.

Just decided to double check in case it was just something obvious I was missing!

Thanks again! :)

Verto clutche flywheels don't have the marks as the timing marks on A+ engines are on the crankshaft pulley and timing cover
