Sad news

Post by kerryminigringo »

It is with great sadness that I learned today of the passing of our fellow Club member Mike Dennehy. Mike was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and loved nothing better than to drive his MKI Cooper S with the same enthusiasm in his later years as he did on the day the Mondello Park opened when he raced it there. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time. Funeral arrangements are as follows on the attached link.

Terribly sad...Mike's presence at shows and runs will be greatly missed.

His stories of his racing days always entertained and his enthusiasm never seemed to waiver.

RIP Mike.

Very sad to hear this news. Mike was probably the oldest active member of the club but he was well able to mix with us younger lads and was always willing to chat about Minis in general. Back in 2008, he and co-driver Robin McCullough were the first Mini to reach Mizen Head that year as they had given it the lash all day.

Mike & Robin at the start of MTM2008 in KZE1, his 1963 1071cc Cooper S

He took part in his Cooper S at the 2 IMOC track days we had in Co. Cork in recent years and always knew the racing line. Earlier this year at the RDS Classic Car Show, his good friend Robin told me that Mike wasn't well but we all hoped he would bounce back.

I found the picture below of Mike being presented with an award at the Mini50 celebrations at Mondello in 2009 by then President Neil Kilbane.

My sympathies to his family.

Very sad news. Mike was a true gentleman and a great driver, my best memory of him is me trying to keep with him and his Cooper S around the bends at Watergrasshill.
He will be sadly missed

Rest in peace Mike ... Spent one or two mtms trying to keep up with him .. Not to mention our track days in watergrasshill .. I remember my first mtm about 5 years ago and Mike coming up to me and giving some advise about a problem I had with my mini . That was my first time meeting him. A true gentleman indeed .... My condolenses to his family ...

Had great fun with mike at the track day in cork 2 years ago. Talked me through each corner. I actually have footage from his driving that day from inside the car, I may put it up when I get home at the weekend. A real gent. Had a real love for minis and people. RIP mike

Very sad news, as others have said, Mike was a true and proper gentleman. I'm also sad not to have seen this before now as I would have been able to attend the funeral this morning. Hope there were a few Minis there.

(In McDonalds, Besancon for free wifi)

I was really sad to hear by text the news of Mike's passing earlier in the week. He certainly was a gentleman and always had time for a chat anytime I met him. He was also an active member of the IVVCC so I got to meet him a few times a year between both club's events.
I remember him saying to me at an MTM that some of his favourite moments were when driving with gusto in his beloved Mini KZE 1.
He used to explain how he had the car tuned & set up to suit his own particular driving style!

I hope that you are in Mini heaven Mike, enjoying the lack of speed limits and open roads
