Dipping shell
Just browseing TMF and i came across a topic on getting a mini dipped in a cheamical or some sorta galvanise. A great idea for rust proofing minis. Im not looking getting it done or anything as i dont have the money for that craic but has anyone ever thought or even done it to they minis or subframe ? Seems like it would work, the lad on TMF got quoted €1300 for a both subframes & full shell including doors boot and bonnet to be coated which i think is a good price for what tour getting

Re: Dipping shell
Zinc electroplating rather than hot dip galvernising, better finnish. There is a big company in Limerick that does this but whether they would take on a car or car parts from a private customer would have to be determined. It is something I would definately do to any replacement panels in the future.

Re: Dipping shell
the hot dip can be dangerous to a classic car, the extra heat can warp the shell and once that happens it's pretty much impossible to get right again

Re: Dipping shell
These guys specialise in shells and components, it costs a few € though.
Might as well go the whole hog and get the e-coating done too

I remember seeing a documentary on the mini and bmc, they were showin off their state of the art rust proofing, in the background, a mini being dipped. I laughed.

Re: Dipping shell
the company you mention is Galvotech i think but is located in shannon.
they don;t have the capability of plating a full car but will do parts no problem
minimum cost is 75 euro.
you need to have parts stripped of everything before bringing it in
any paint or rust he will tell you no.
they don't offer stripping service, well they didn't when i used them.
