The August edition of Classic Cars has an extensive article on John Lennons Ferrari 330GT which is due to be auctioned next week estimated at between £180,000 - £220,000. (Lotto numbers needed )
Anyways in the article it makes reference to mini's as he passed his driving test before buying the Ferrari in an 850 Mini, this being the 1st car he bought, for his wife in 1964.
It's the side piece on the other cars that he bought that's brought me to write here though, it makes reference to his famous black Radford Mini Cooper S which he bought in Feb 1966 which was believed to have been scrapped has recently resurfaced in Dublin.
Yep, We figured that the car had been brought to Ireland by John's then ex wife Cynthia, (She lived in Wicklow for a time with Julian). In the mid eighties the car was in a garden in Marino in Dublin 3. It was in medium condition and the chap who owned it was working in Saudi Arabai. Paul called at various times to the house but never made contact with the chap. His mum was to get him to call Paul when he was next back in Ireland. She didn't want the car cluttering up her driveway. Paul never got the call and the next time it was heard of was it had been bought by a car dealer who operated out of Howth. Paul knew him quite well but there was no deal to be done, money was tight for us at the time. He eventually sold it, and it seemed to disappear, the last we heard was that a chap who was involved in a computer company had bought it and realised what it was and it has remained hidden ever since. We know somebody who knows him quite well and we still haven't established if its the same car but in all likelyhood it is. He doesn't appear to be a mini head more into cars in general, if any more info comes to light we will keep you informed or indeed if anyone has any news of it we would be really interested in an update. It's the equivalent to the fisherman's one who got away.........
