spi only running on 2 cylinders

Post by briain »

Hi
My mini Has been running like a dog since I replaced the o2 sensor and for some reason it's now running on 2 cylinders. It's not running on cylinders 2 and 3. I've replaced the coil the leads and the spark plugs. I checked the dizzy cap which looks ok didn't have one to replace it with. So I'm getting a spark with the plugs out but obviously not under load. This has me stumped what else should I check?

What caused the O2 sensor to fail? They don't like oil so the head gasket idea is a good place to start. Compression test.

Yeah I'll check that out when I have a chance in work the next few days. When I had the head off about a year ago I put a turbo head gasket on it and haven't overheated it. So if it is the head not sure how I blew it.

Brian, before you pull the head check the valve clearances and check the compression.. assuming you are getting sparks on two and three.

Ok so I pulled the head and yep the head gone between cylinders 2 and 3. So what's the best head gasket I should get gonna go the whole hog get the head skimmed and replace the studs. Anything else I should do replace while I'm at it? Also anywhere in Dublin I can get the parts instead if minispares

Last time I bought a head gasket set was in Ashgrove, not too far from you. It was 20 years ago though :D

A Payen head gasket is your only man, Ashgrove can get them in for you too, or you could probably get one from Lloyd Hutchinson in Delgany
