Mini running rough

Post by 1300cooper »

I have a 1992 austin cooper 1275 spi. She starts and ticks over perfect but when you drive her anything over 2000 rpm she begins overfuelling and backfiring under the air box. Anyone know what this could be? She hasnt been driven much in the past year and only modification is a straight through exhaust. She drove into the shed perfect and next time i took her out i had this problem. Any help would be appreciated as nct is coming up soon!

all rubbers appear to be in good condition and well sealed. any tips on how to test if they are sealing correctly and if not where can i get replacements? other forums say to change the coolants temp. sensor, is this worth a shot or is there other things to test first?

If the sensor is gone the choke will stay on take out the spark plugs if the choke is staying on the plugs will be black if it's running right they will be brown

Couple of reasons for this happening, as u drove the car in running, I might say a new coil will sort it. There is the chance that the dizzy is not working correctly but unlikly.

I think the coil is ok as i took off each spark plug lead one by one when she was running and each cylinder seems to be firing ok. Maybe this isnt the best way to test a coil? Coolant temp. sensor seems to be ok aswell. Anyone know anything about throttle position sensors or how to test them? or anything else i should test?
