MiniSport rims...Will they fit Austin 1990?

Post by goz_83 »

I'm looking on MiniSport and thinking of putting a new set of rims onto the Austin 1990. May sound like a silly question, but will they fit? I haven't decided on a set, but because they only have radius and width, i'm assuming I can pick any set and they will fit. Am I right? I may get a set of 10" rims, but i'm also considering 12" rims. Here is a set I am considering. Will they fit?

Minis from 1984 on have 8.4" disc breaks fitted and you will need 12" or 13" wheels to fit over these.

To fit 10" wheels and keep the safety of a good break set up you will have to convert your discs to a 7.5" set from a Cooper S (not cheap)

As regards the width of the rim, anything up to 10x6 will fit the wheel well but suitable arches will have to be fitted to keep them NCT compliant.
12x5 will fit straight on to what you have now but 12x6 will need the wheel arch to be cut/modified. Anything in a 13" wheel will require body mods.

Thanks. 12x5 it is then. I thought the wheel arch trim I had fit would allow a 6

Will I get away with 5.5 x 12?

12x6 will probably rub at the front of the wheel arch.

See if you can borrow one locally to see if it will fit.

I ordered 12x5.5 in the end. Also ordered a stage 1 exhaust upon the recommendation of the lads at minifix. Thanks

12" mini lites in white. I would say they could do with a refurb. Tyres have plenty of thread too. White just doesn't suit the new colour scheme.
