1976 Mini Clubman

Post by rmc123 »

Got a transporter from Mr Hire in Nutgrove. €75 for the weekend. A good price I think and as well they open at 07:30 on Monday so I can return before going to work.
Finally got the car out of the barn today and here are some more pictures of the car. As you can see the mileage is only 30K. I know this is genuine as the car was originally my grand-mothers.

I expected to open the door and find the lovely bright orange :) interior covered in spider webs and rats nests but was very pleased to find this in very good condition, however the body work has not survived quite so well, bits of rust in the usual places, both A panels and the bottom of the doors. The floor is very good, this is because the underside of the floor pan was sprayed with tar when the car was first bought.

I haven’t decided what to do with it yet, Should I just repair the rust patches and put back on the road or strip it and get fully resprayed?

Anybody got an idea what it would cost to have it resprayed?

It looks fairly solid, best of luck with it.
Did something melt on to it?

Hi Dave,
Ye it looks like that, but no it's the remains of the carpet that was covering it.

1976 Mini Clubman - Coming to the end of a rebuild

Post by rmc123 »

Hi all,

After 1.5 years I've almost completed the rebuild of my clubman. Luckly the car was garaged and under sealed all its life so the body work is in very good nick.

I have one question. Can anybody tell me the trick on putting the plastic Chrome strip along the wheel arches and sills. I have wricked 3 strips already.

Car looks sweet....

Bucket of warm water for the strip first because when it warm it will take shape better!

Good Luck with the car

Beautiful! Love the colour. Suits the Clubbie very well.

Let it soften in a bucket of warm water and should pop on with a rubber mallet for some gentle persuasion

Have a hairdryer on hand to keep it flexible for the tricky curves
