Radius Arm Questions
Do Radius Arms usually require rebuilding or are they generally alright? I've seen the rebuild kit on mini spares and was just wondering.
I have them removed at the moment anyway. If they should be redone, anyone know anyone around who would do the reaming?
Thanks,
Dave.

Re: Radius Arm Questions
They only require rebuilding when there is wear at the bush.If you have the arm on the car and with the car jacked up and secured on axle stands, catch the wheel and pull/push it in and out and you should see movement at the swivel pin.No movement means the arm is ok and movement means rebushing provided the arm is not too worn.If the pin has worn through the bronze bush to a point where the hole has been ovalled then the arm is scrap.
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.

Re: Radius Arm Questions
The bronze bush has to be reamed to the correct size with a special tool to make sure they are inline. I have two arms to do for Woody next week, I'll do a "How To" when I do them.

Re: Radius Arm Questions
To check condition with arm removed.
Remove shaft and inspect each end where the bush and bearing sit for corrosion or wear.
Clean the bearing and inspect for damage and make sure its moving freely.
Clean the bush and looking end on see if it looks oval.If it looks ok insert the shaft 4cm and check for lateral movement.
The kit includes shaft, bearing, bush , washers and seals so if any of the above fail its best to fit a new kit.
If all is ok reasemble with plenty of greese and then pump with greese when fitted back on car.

Re: Radius Arm Questions
Heading to IMM this week so not straight away.
With the amount the shaft has worn, what does the hole in the arm look like ?

Re: Radius Arm Questions
If you can do it, whenever suits you is fine with me, there's no hurry. Thanks!
It doesn't look as bad as the shaft to be honest.
Took the vernier to it last night and the difference around it ranges from about 20.6 to 20.8mm
