scuttle repair€€€€

Post by clubmankev »

Hi all, been getting some quotes on some body work on the car and all is grand till it comes to pricing repairing the rust underneath the windscreen. I know its very involved, but is is possible to cut and replace the rotten corners with fresh metal instead of the whole 'wings off' and new scuttle malarky? I just can't stretch the budget at the present time. Would fillers even be a good temporary fix until the troika are the f@€k away!
Thanks in advance.

Between 3 and 4 hundred, including a genuine scuttle. The rest of the work including a new door skin and other light bodywork, rust repair and paint is coming to a grand and that is more or less what I was budgeting for the entire job.

300-400 for a replacement scuttle sounds quite good to me as long as its a genuine panel. I got mine done and was charged about 200 labour only. I had to provide the scuttle and I think it was about 100 sterling.

Here's the scuttle panel but in my case, the inner fascia panel had to be completely replaced and we didn't realise that until the windscreen and dash were removed.

Some spurious scuttle panels are a horrendous fit.If it were me I would go with a BMH one.If the job is done right that is not a bad price.Better to do it now than have the dash rail rot as well.

Thanks fellas, I was up with a panel beater in celbridge who specialises in classics (and who has a soft spot for mnis) who told me he could cut the rotten section of scuttle out and patch up with fresh metal. He reckons he can do all that and the rest of the work needed on budget, leaving me with a small parts bill on top. His rates for classicsis actually lower than modern cars because he reckons the satisfaction of bringing them back to life means more than the money!
