Looking for advise

Post by GSmall »

So took the Mini for a spin today, ran fine. Drove about twelve miles and stopped off, on the way home it started to die, didn't conk was going about 15 miles an hour max sounded like it was choking. Red light was fading in and out on the dash. Was having the same problem about four weeks ago and had a new alternator fitted. That doesn't seem to be doing the job. Doesn't seem to be the battery as its starts alright, the problem is in drive. Its an automatic, and if i change it from drive to first seems to bring the life back into it. Anyone have a similar thing?? When it was in the garage he said he couldn't see anything. thanks

may be that the alternator isn't charging the battery or at least not enough,
check the belt and connections on the alternator, the earth strap for a good connection and the battery leads to make sure they're not worn anywhere, also check the battery isn't on the way out

Sounds familiar, check that the battery cable isn't shorting or melting on the exhaust.
