Flying option:

Ryanair:

Thurs 16th May
Depart Dublin at 09:15am
Arrive Pisa at 13:00

Tues 21st May
Depart Pisa at 07:05am
Arrive Dublin at 09:05am

Cost: €96 return

Terravision http://www.terravision.eu/florence_pisa.html operate a coach service from Pisa Airport to Florence for as little as €4.99 (if booked in advance)
It takes about an hour and then it's possible to catch a local bus to Mugello which is about a 40 minute journey.

Stay in Pisa on the Monday night (21st) close to the airport for about €50 so that you can catch the early flight home on the Tuesday morning :)

As I won't know my travel arrangements until February when I get my exam dates, I've provisionally booked my accommodation for the Monday night here http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... scany.html
There is no charge for room cancellations up to a week in advance :)

Book on this site:

Tony,

The Pisa-Stansted-Dublin option on the Tuesday would give you a lie-on.

Pah, ly ons!!!!

The hotel is walking distance from the Airport and only 20 mins by bus in to Pisa City Centre so might have an afternoon exploring there on the Monday :)

Plus, I've had experiences TWICE in the past of missing 'connecting' flights at stansted with Ryanair!

There's a 4 hour stopover in Stansted so I wouldn't worry about missing the connection.

A friend of mine has missed her onward flight from Leeds this morning because the Ryanair flight from Dublin was delayed......... :(

Ryanair is a point to point airline with each flight sector booked seperately and, therefore, if anything goes wrong with one flight, there is absolutely no recourse at all if you miss the second one.

I missed a 'connecting' flight from Stansted-Dublin a few years ago as a result of the coach to Paris(Beauvais) Airport breaking down. The Paris flight was held back because most of its' passengers were on the broken down coach! However, because that flight was delayed by 2:45mins, I subsequently missed the Stansted-Dublin flight because of the 40 minute check in rule that Ryanair are so strict at enforcing. It cost me €232 to get home as a result :(

At least if the Pisa-Dublin flight is delayed, Ryanair will be responsible and I'll still get home without the wallet suffering!

What are the plans re accommodation en route across/back?? Combination of campsites & cheap motels??

Joey,

You'll need a tent, sleeping bag, jocks, socks etc. or arrange to share with someone. 2 modern sleeping bags would fit into a single bag as hand luggage. If you're travelling with someone else, you bring the sleeping bags as your hand luggage and they bring the pop-up tent as theirs.

It can be done.

The other alternative is to have someone bring your stuff over for you but it's only fair you pay a contribution to them.

Don't be worrying about clothes for IMM Joey.

Some people manage to get by with the one set for the entire weekend:

Others, simply swap tops with other IMM'ers:

While others, just let it all hang out........!!!!

Oh, and if you're prepared to share, you won't need a sleeping bag as there's always plenty of room to snuggle up with someone!!!
