brake cylinder is there better type to fit to car

hi has anyone change there brake cylinder for different type . i heard there is another car uses the same servo but it has longer piston in it meant to be better my car is 81

it look like it had its day i bought a project of another fella that was already started ,well striped and it was sitting in a box of bits that he had looks like the seals are missing i head there is better brake cylinder out there that will fit minis it of another type of car around same year its meant to have a bigger tank and piston inside of it but i cant remember what type of car he said just wondering has any one lest every heard about this

1981 Minis didn't come with servos, are you talking about a master cylinder? If it is a servo, which type? Might help if you put up a photo.

Not to derail the thread too much, Is the brake server switch (physical button) the one that looks like a foot on a pedal? Its the 2nd from the left on the dash? if so, should it light up when pressed, or not?

cylinder sorry me bad will the austin 1100/1300 cylinder fit i heard they have bigger piston so more brake power i am just going what i hear so wonder if anyone has done it before

This is more of a warning light to let you know if your brake fluid is low....the light should also come on when you press the switch, really just to tell you that the bulb (in the switch) still works.
It may be the case that it doesn't light up if there is an wiring problem, i.e. one of the terminals has fallen off the fluid reservoir, but I don't think BL were that advanced.

Me thinks that might be overkill about the servo the standard setup is well up to the job if its kept in good order

Your car should have a dual master cylinder (front/back) whereas the 1100/1300 only had single circuit brakes like early minis. If your sticking with the drums this cylinder should be ok and if your changing to discs you might concider a later servo from an'87 on mini.

and if you are doing that you should change the brake bias mounted to the rear subframe for the one from the same car (if that makes sense)
