Re: !!!!!!!! CAMPING WEEKEND CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!
Joe,
I'm sure it was a tough call to make considering all the work that's involved in the background. I'm sure everyone will appreciate that ye haven't taken the decision lightly. Unfortunately loads of events have been cancelled around Ireland this summer due to the weather and the ground was already waterlogged.
There'll be again,
Billy

Joe, Laurna & Joe,
Fair play to yee for all the work that's gone on behind the scenes.
There's not a lot that we can do about the weather.
Even some of the big shows in the UK were cancelled this year
Think of how successful the past 2 years have been and look to the future rather than the mess you'd have to deal with if you went ahead in this atrocious weather.

That's a pity, we were really looking forward to a great weekend, but that said I can totally understand the decision. We will just have to look forward to the 2013 weekend.

That's a crying shame!
you guys have put sooooo much work into this and now the bloody Irish summer puts paid to it all!
gutted for you!
hopefully this won't put you off getting stuck in again next year as I believe it will be easier second time around,
all we have to do is have a few quiet words with the man upstairs till then,
thanks for the effort all the same!

Thats a shame, but its understandable after all, weather has been awful this year and the past 2 days haven't been the best. hope next year the weather is on our side.

I'm so sorry for you all, I know how much you were all looking forward to what was going to be an epic good time.
Due to holidays I wasn't going to make it myself this year, but am definitely looking forward to next year and meeting you all at another event soon.
I'm sure you made the right decision though, the weather is absolutely unreal. If you'd all made it in, you'd probably have been stuck for weeks!

Re: **** CAMPING WEEKEND - CANCELLED ****
Is there any reason this is so late in the year? Just with the way the Irish weather is going for the last few years could this be organised for late July and if it does need to be cancelled you will have a fall back weekend in mid aug. just wondering thanks, from a disappointed mini owner

Re: **** CAMPING WEEKEND - CANCELLED ****
I was thinking the same thing, we might have a better chance earlier in the summer and if we are rained off we could have a "plan b" , maybe we could look at a caravan park or chalets for a weekend, just a thoughtspud1979 wrote:Is there any reason this is so late in the year? For the organizers ya, but also for the members also who booked time off work and got all the gear for the camping and to be totally disappointed two days before the weekend, like I said I totally understand the decision and I'm glad that we are not sitting in wet tents.
PLEASE don't get me wrong, I'm NOT "giving out" or annoyed or anything like that ( still looking forward to tomorrows fun run) I'm just wondering if we have options !
Again not annoyed,

Re: **** CAMPING WEEKEND - CANCELLED ****
The reason it has been held in late August is to give families and their kids one last weekend of fun before they go back to school and most people who have holidays booked will be home by then.Earlier in the summer and people are away.
We have held it in late August for a good few years now and not had a problem but this year with the prolonged wet weather the ground has become saturated and while it would be okay for tents alone, we would be parking cars on the grass which is something the scouts don't do and the people responsible for the running of the park were afraid the surface would get cut up.
If it was damaged this year,we would have to pay to repair it and might not be allowed to use the park in the future.
So, with all those factors taken into account, along with a poor long range weather forecast, the decision was taken to cancel the event. It is unfortunate, especially for the people who put so much time into organising it.
But, it will be back next year and steps will be taken to ensure that car parking on grass will not be a problem.

Re: **** CAMPING WEEKEND - CANCELLED ****
Well said Aidan.
As I mentioned in a post the other day, Laurna and the lads put a HUGE amount of work in behind the scenes to ensure the event would be even better than before.
Unfortunately, nature can have the final say about what we can and can't do in this country. With big concerts and car shows in the UK cancelled this summer because of adverse weather conditions, then a small club like the IMOC has no hope of making alternative last minute arrangements.
At least it wasn't the first ever club camping weekend which means that most people will know that it was a very worthwhile event in the past and that it will most certainly be even better next year
While the camping didn't happen, there'll be plenty more IMOC events before the year is out. I'm currently working on an Autumn Run based around the top half of the Eastern Region so keep an eye out here on the forum and on your mobiles for updates......

Re: **** CAMPING WEEKEND - CANCELLED ****
Hi Guys
Thanks a million for all the well wishes, unfortunate the weekend turned out the way it did, but today s rain confirmed it was the right thing to do. Some very valid point with relation to dates, but along with what Aidan said, the date was also chosen to encourage people and traders from the UK as portrush is on next weekend, so they come in to Dublin, and leave through Belfast,
However, all was not lost, the people who came had a good weekend, traders made some money, we raised some money of the Temple street children's hospital and the site was left in good condition
A special thanks has to be given to the Donegal mini owners club, there support and great sprite made for great entertainment all weekend, and there ability to cook burgers was just brilliant
until next year
Joe

Re: **** CAMPING WEEKEND - CANCELLED ****
Hi Guys,
I hope my comments weren't taken the wrong way, I know the decision to cancel was the correct one, nobody wants to sleep in a wet tent or cut up the Scouts camp.
I was just thinking an earlier date would give us a 2nd chance...... Having read Aidan's post above I can see why its planned for this weekend.
Today was a great day after all and of course we didn't let a little rain spoil our day
Hope everyone got home safe, that was some heavy rain around 5 o'clock .
See you all at the next run.
Darren
