Just wanted to put up this because I'm fed up of reading adds on Irish websites claiming that their mini's are nct exempt. Only car registered before the 1st January 1980 are nct exempt. People seem to be of the opinion that cars over 30 years of age are nct exempt, which is wrong.
Don't forget if convicted of no nct in court it is 5 penalty points and a fine of up to €1500. This is the worse penalty under the penalty point system.
Welcome to the Irish Mini Owners Club Forum. Keep an eye out of on coming events!!!!

Over 30 years is the lower tax and people seem to think thats got to do with nct
Re: Warning
use to be 30yrs for nct untill a couple of years back when they changed it to pre 80's, they just let the tax run on.joeyfinneran wrote:Over 30 years is the lower tax and people seem to think thats got to do with nct

Re: Warning
Just want to bump this up again, have spoken to 3 mini owners recently that were informed when buying the car that it was nct exempt because it had reached 30 years old. Don't get caught by this. It has to be pre 1/1/80. Not all guards are mini lovers
the penalty is very high with 5 points going on your licence if convicted in district court.

Well said. And another thing that a surprising amount of advertisers of classic cars (ie not just Mini's) don't seem to know is what the lower rate of tax actually is, which I suppose means they never taxed the vehicle they are selling...!! The yearly rate is currently €56 and I've noticed a fair few adverts with different figures stated.
