My mams car

Post by Bweengmachine »

hiya lads

just a quick question for ye. we have an old mini at home (red austin '74, 998cc on a cork city reg) that was stored in the back of the barn after it was crashed years ago (23 to be precise). its farely beat up but i would love to restore it as it was once belong to my late mother.
but heres the question i have the old reg book but my father cant remember if the car was declared scrapped or off the road.

How or where do i find this out?

i've tried all the car check websites but no good is the reg too old for this.
will the road tax office do it.
Any help would be appriciated

Thanks lads

If you know Tom Roche in Dromahane, show him your Mini. He's an active member of the club and knows them inside out.

I'm over the far side of Mallow in Ballyhooly and there's plenty of other club members in the area. Did you see the club in the Mallow Paddy's day Parade?

If you want to meet a few of the lads, we have a Track Day in Kartworld next Sunday morning if you fancy calling over to say hello.

Good luck with the Mini,

Billy

As far as I know to officaly scrap the car the shell would have to be brought to an offical scrapyard and certified as scraped ( as in the scrapage scheme) and/or the logbook would have to be sent to the taxoffice and declared scraped.Since you have both I don't see how it could be scraped. The car is off the road so long it won't be on the computer systems so just restore it and when you go to tax it they will enter it on the system

23 years ago to scrap the car you would have returned the logbook.

Go with Woody's advice above.

By the way, welcome to the Forum, how are the Fords?

thanks lads thats good advice.

was thinking of ringing the office in limerick to see allright just to be sure it would be shame to but a lot of effort into to a car to get it right to fine out at the end of it that you cant put it on the road again.

Fords are going grand daveC, my mark 1 fiesta is nearly there so looking for the next project.
