door locks

Post by benfox1515 »

Hi,

I have had my mini recently attempted to be robbed. Lucky nothing was stolen from it and the only damage done was to the door lock. Its busted and the key won't go into it and lock, neither will the button press in. Will I need to get a whole new handle for the door or is there another way to fix it. Just I don't fancy having different keys for different doors, and to buy new locks for doors a boot is something I can't afford at the mo

afaik you can pop the barrel out and put it into another handle, that's unless they've completely buggered the barrel.
handles normally come up for sale and can be quite cheap, infact i think their is somebody with handles for sale on this forum, have a look

It's a pain in the arsh having your motor broken into though, now you'll always be wary of it happening again,
not a nice feeling :(

As Macker said you can transfer the barrels over if they are not knackered and if the barrel is knackered there is a way to adapt other barrels to fit your key.
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.

Took it apart just now. The locking barrel is ok now. But the button to open has a plastic bit behind it and that's broke in three parts. So would just need the button!!

Also when they tried to open the door, where the handle is screwed in has been pulled out so the handle won't fit snug to the door. Any tips on how put bang the parts back in place without ruining the paint work! Only sprayed a few months ago so really don't want to crack the paint

you could try tapping it back in with a rubber hammer/mallet with a block of hard wood behind the panel to stop it going back in too far

Many thanks to minionly for dropping that handle up to my house. Really appreciated. Was able to get it switch over to my handle easily enough, but the bloody pin holding the lock in place was a bit of a pain to get back in place!
