Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
You only gained about 5bhp that kicks in when the trottle is open about 95% so if everything is set up right and your not driving flat out it shouldn't make any differance. If anything the less backpressure of the exhaust should help economy a little.

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
as a rule the 998's aren't that thirsty unless the fuel mixture is wrong, it could be shoveling in too much petrol?
what is the exhaust like, any black soot building up on the exit?

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
How much petrol are using? Miles per gallon?
When I had a bog standard 998 on the road it was regularly giving 40+mpg
Depends how you drive with the Stage 1 kit, use the extra performance and you use more petrol

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
If your getting less than 35mpg theres something wrong and if your taking it easy and not sitting in traffic you should see 45mpg easy enough. If its been off the road or had work done check for a fuel leak ,especially between the pump and carb. After that it proberbly needs a tune up . and/or needle swap. Pop out the sparkplugs and see what colour they are.

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
i found when i put a stage-1 on a 998 it ran better, sweeter and easier on petrol. problem was it was so nice to hold the rev higher and delay the gearchange, it kinda used a bit more then... .

Signature still awaiting top-coat and lacquer....

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
Sorry to thread hijack folks, but I've been monitoring this myself since my last tank fill and bit confused.
I've a 1275 Carb + stage 1
- To fill the tank is a max of €32
- I just measured a poor 100 miles at empty
- 100 miles @ 20.5 L = 4.5 Gal = 22.22 mpg
Tank I would have expected to be 7.5 Gal but going by this I can assume its a 4.5 Gal tank.
Bearing in mind I put the car back on the road last week after 3 months off so i drove it quite heavily, but not ridiculously.
Have i made some stupid error in my calculating or is she running ridiculously rich?

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
Fill up the tank to the brim and write down the mileage. Drive it till it's getting near empty. Refill it and take a note of the litres it took to fill it back up to the brim and the mileage again. Divide the number of litres by 4.546 which converts it to gallons. Divide the mileage by the number of gallons and there's your mpg. It doesn't matter what size tank you've got, the same calculation applies.
Litres/4.546 = gallons
Mileage 1 - Mileage 2 = miles between fills.
Miles/Gallons = mpg.

Re: stage 1 and petrol useage
Did you ever get the engine set up properly after the modifications ?
Even in untuned format the Mini engine can give vastly different MPG figures.
At the last IMOC Economy Run the winning Mini returned 59.88MPG while the thirstiest was 24.77MPG over the same 46.1 mile course.
Another point to consider is how accurate you odometer is. From the figures returned for the last Economy Run it was evident that cars were reading above and below the actual course distance. No car returned the actual distance, they actualy ranged from 44miles to 63.9 miles !!!!!
