Hope you got your fan belt sorted, if you didn't you could always give Ray Cunningham at the Galway Mini Center a shout, 091 790046 or contact the Regional Rep. for the Western Region of the Irish Mini Owners Club, Adrian Cusack on 087 6626039, he should be able to point you in the right direction.

I got the belt sorted today (838mm belt). Does it make any difference to the alternator if the belt is to tight? i noticed that when the car is running if i switch the lights or heater on the revs drob a bit.

Just be careful David it is possible to damage the alt main bearing. A good indication is if you press the belt with your finger on its longest run i.e. (where there is the greatest distances between the three pulleys) it should deflect about 10 to 12 mm or in the queens increments half an inch. Also it is very normal for the engine rpm to decrees when a load is placed on the alt as to generate electricity you need power and so the engine must do more work which mean a drop in rpm.
Regards,
Paul.
