newbie question

Post by joeyfinneran »

does the oil go into the hole on top of the rocker cover thats what my dad said but i wanted to confirm it before i did anything bad
and my driver side 2 spots don't work and i put the multi meter on it and got nothing in both lights and at the other end of the wire theres a little 1'' square box and theres no power at the connection where the spots go. does this mean thats box it gone ? and should be replaced ?

thanks for future answers

Its probally a relay, so its either not getting power to the coil to switch it or its feck'd.

right got the oil to the right level and the light is still on will it turn off after a drive ?

and the lights problem is just because I'm thick in the head
the wire was exposited from changing a club earlier (the reason why i went at the light) and i didn't tape it off and it was touch the lights bar and blew the fuse and it took 3 fuses by the time i figured out what was wrong
ill get another fuse tomorrow and get more fuses for spares and one for the lights and it should be ok :)
thanks for all the advice, i should have opened my eyes and i wouldn't have to be asking here ahh well learn the hard way

The oil light on a mini is for oil pressure not oil level. If you have been running the engine with the light on for a long period you could ruin the bearings. Did you do an oil change or just top it up?

Short out the connector at the oil pressure sender unit against the block and see if the light goes out, this will eliminate if it is the sender at fault.

Did it come on constant or just when cornering or at idle?
When did you do an oil change and what grade oil did you use?
If the engine idle is too low the ligh will come on as oil pressure increases with engine speed.
If the engine is high milage 20/50 oil can help.
Ther is an oil pressure relief valve just above the starter motor which may need cleaning.

Sorted out the lights today
And the oil light came on because when dad was pullin at the dip stick he pulled out the little pipe that goes onto the oil pressure pump and thats was caused the light to come on

Thanks for all the advice it was a great help :)
