Hi all, im having a problem with the drivers belt being extended over half way out and refusing to retract.
When driving its ok cause I take up the slack but when i unbuckle the belt just stays where it is.
The car is a 1997 mpi, so its a pyro belt and it is colour coded to the interior.
Does anyone know can the belt be repaired or are replacements available in colours other then black or grey?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Stuck seatbelt.
Hi. Pull out the belt until the very end and make sure it's not twisted further down. That would stop it from retracting back in.

Re: Stuck seatbelt.
I gave that a go and the belt does not appear to be twisted.
There seems to be a bit of movement and knocking from what I assume to be the belt spool.

Re: Stuck seatbelt.
as far as i can remember, there is a bearing in the winding unit that knocks against a pin that will either lock against a trigger wheel when pressure is applied (as in an accident) but when it lies idle the bearing doesn't push the pin in so letting the trigger wheel turn and your belt comes out, (just my own explanation of it )
what might be happening is that dirt has built up over the years and has stopped the free action of these parts which may be making the pin hold against the trigger wheel while the belt is supposed to be retracting causing it to clog up,
all I can say to you is to take out the winding unit end of the seatbelt and see if you can give it a good and proper cleaning

Re: Stuck seatbelt.
Dont some of these late models have seat belt per-tensioners ? if so I'd be careful poking around in them.
