1982 Mini Van
Well after a 2 year hibernation in storage i finally pulled out the van to start getting it running properly, get the body tidyed up and the interior sorted. It hadnt been starting properly and kept cutting out when pressure was applied to the engine so i stripped the carburetor to find it clogged up with all sorts of muck, gave it a good cleaning and put it back on, it ran great, a very sweet engine. It also had no inline fuel filter at all so i'll put one in before its all finished. But i do have a reconditioned carburetor and better condition air box so im going to put these on later too.
I also plan on painting the engine black while some of it is stripped back. I took the altenator off as there is a bearing going in it so thats off to the Auto Electrician on Monday. I hope to get the seats redone also, not sure either to get them reupholstered of use a good pair of seats i have out of a Sidewalk Mini.
Also have to sort out the brake pedal, it sticks down a little after you brake, not sure if its just stiff from lying up of the brake cyl needs replacing.
Heres a few pics of the start of it :
Removed the alternator to get it reconditioned, there was bearings going in it
Picture of the interior, looking pretty tatty and aged, have to decide wether to redo or replace with more modern seats
New carb & airbox
When i was donw in the pit i was delighted to see that it is very solid and manly rust free thanks to it being undersealed many moons ago.
Under the front wheelarches

Lookin good Darren, I seen afew times were the brake or clutch pedal seized on its shaft.Since its moving WD40 will proberbly fix it but I've seen were the whole pedaal box had to be removed to sort it.

Re: 1982 Mini Van
Darren,
I would go for the period custom look and maybe those rx7 seats.
My first mini was 1982 van, bucket seats and 10" dunlops and it was great.
yours is a lot more solid than mine ever was, best of luck.

Re: 1982 Mini Van
A set of reverse rims with W&P arches always looks well on long wheelbase Minis. As for the interior,if I were to change it I would go with a set of black cobra low back seats and keep the period steering wheel for a retro look. Are you getting the van ready as your presidential transport for the year and is that your SD1 I see in the background.
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.
