Project to Get As New Mini Back on the Road

Post by minicac »

This is my 1983 Mini Mayfair Automatic with 7600 miles, its in as close to factory fresh condition as you will find. In a few weeks I will have it 10 years! And I am only the second owner. Its time to get this mini back on the road as would not have done 10 miles in the last 10 year. The only work done to this mini in the last 10 years was 2 oil changes, alloys wheels and OE Rover stainless bumpers.

I did keep the mini running up to 4 years ago; I do put WD40 into the cylinder every few months.

Jobs to do are replace the coolant system as its almost 30 years old, a full service, all fluids change. Replace the points, fuel pump, clean fuel lines, new brake cylinders, ect. Have all the OE parts and will get them on and get this mini back on the road in 2012.

Gorgeous Mini. Nothing wrong with an automatic. I just had my own '67 auto out for a spin earlier. They still go around corners like nothing else.

Thanks everyone :D , I will soon have all the bits to get the mini back on the road.

Parts to be Renewed,
Heater tap & Gasket,
Radiator,
Water Pump,
Bypass Hose,
Fan Belt,
Full Service,
Rocker Cover Gasket,
Ignition Kit (points ect),
Wheel Cylinders,
Steering Boots.

The factory fan belt and it still looks like new, I am going to put a new one on and keep this one safe as it is almost 30 years old and would not like it to get damaged.

The Heater tap is working fine but sadly it has started to leak badly in the last few months, the valve seals are gone inside with age

The mini is running :D a new set of points, condensor, rotor arm and distributor cap and the mini was running again. Then a new oil filter and oil, had it out for a drive and the auto box is ok. The next job is new wheel cylinders, and new coolant system.
Image

I am getting new alloy wheels, and should have them in the next few days.

Nothing wrong with the wheels, but I am keeping the original black trim on the car was going to put chrome handle's trim's, bumper's and grille on but am going to keep the original black trim's, and have put the black bumpers back on.
I am going for a alloy wheel to go with the back trim, Minilife 4.5x10 Antracite diamond cut.
