New Years Day Run 2012 - Cork

Post by Billy »

The Munster Vintage Motor Cycle and Car Club Ltd are holding their annual charity run on New Years Day 2012 and all old cars are welcome. There's no entry fee but a bucket collection will take place during the day.

This year, the start venue is on the left of the entrance to Douglas Court Shopping Centre. We will congregate from 10.30am and proceed to Roberts Cove Inn where soup and sandwiches will be served, followed by the usual collection for Marymount Hospice.

Myself and Eamospud intend to dust off the Minis for this as it's a perfect way to start off the New Year.

We have the option of also heading over to Cobh on New Years Day for the start of the Titanic Centenary commemorations.

Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 - Titanic Centenary New Years Day Event
2012 sees the centenary of the Titanic's only voyage and we will be welcoming this special New Year in with an acknowledgment on New Year's Day.
To pay tribute to one of the biggest maritime events in the last 100 years, The Irish Navy will berth the LE Emer in Deep Water Quay, outside the Cobh Heritage Centre and it will be open to the public from 2.00pm - 4pm on New Years Day. This will be followed by a message from The Cobh Town Mayor and other dignitaries in the Promenade Band Stand and a poignant gun salute exchange from Spike Island and the LE Emer. To follow we will remember the people associated with the TItanic by releasing 123 flares from Spike Island, this number representing the people that boarded the Titanic from Cobh on the 11th of April 1912. This is an ideal opportunity for the whole family to come to Cobh, experience first hand the inside of an Irish Navy vessel and acknowledge the start of the Titanic Centenary year.

No panic on start time, lads. Cars/motorbikes will hardly leave Douglas by 11.30am.

See ye in the morning,
