Im still putting this1380 into my mini and running it on spi injection system so I'm just connecting it all back up. But I've hit a snag as I've spare connectors and I'm not getting any power to the ignition not even dash lights. The connectors could be nothing as its a jap import and they could from the air con which has been removed I'm hoping I've just missed something and and electrical problems are related if people could identify these connectors it would be a great help
Top pick looks like the single wire goes to the bottom of the throttle body vissable from under neath and the the other black one looks like the one for the airfilter not sure about the bottom pic
THink the single one is the manifold heater underneith the inlet manifold.
Black plug may be thottle motor just below it in the pic.
Brown plug looks like lamba sensor located on exhaust manifold.
Can you tell us the number and colours of cables in plugs.
None of these would prevent the dash from powering up.I sujest you look at the brown connections at the starter motor,
single wire is the manifold heater underneat the carb the black one goes to the injector on the side of the carb near the green conector for the air box the red one looks like air condition conector as its not on my spi lamba sensor has four wires and is black no power is your earths or starter motor not conected properly
Will check the strter motor connections tomorrow. The throttle body is already connected but don't reember if I plugged in the lambda yet will have a look on the manifold for the single connection aswell. Thanks for the help
I haven't found any connections for the above pics but i did have the starter motor wired up wrong lost a connection int the mess of wires. My new problem is I'm not getting any spark now I'm sure its something I've done rather then a problem with the car so if someone could post of a picture of how they have wired up there coil on an spi I would really appreciate it thanks
Need more details here. The car is a jap import ,there are two types of jap SPi, need the year and was it auto or manual. Need a picture and any part numbers of the coil and connections.
Give me the colours of the cables in the connectors in the first pictures.
I can see its a Ducillier coil, there should me a number stamped on the bottom of it.You said there are 3 black and white wires but in in the picture I see only 2 white/black wires ( Its important to note the main wire colour first and then the tracer colour) .Need to see where the black wire is going, you mentioned a ballest. A general picture of the whole engine bay may also help.
The wires are exactly the same white with a black tracer there no.s are 1 with a up on the other side of the connections and the other connector has 15 with +bat. the black wire is just going to the ballast
so Keith came over and got a spark on the car but I'm still not getting the car to start its turning over but its not even kicking so I'm going to change the plugs and leads and check the timing tomorrow(although I don't think its timing) So i'm a bit confused if anyone has any ideas it would be a great help
think it would be a good idea to find out where the timing is at on your car: as we proved; there is fuel pressure, there is a spark, the spark on no. 1 cylinder is *near* TDC on compression.
we haven't proved if the injector is firing, and we don't know *exactly* when the spark is being delivered.
firstly try see when the spark is happening with a strobe light? If the front pulley & timing chain cover don't have the markings on them you might have to rig something temporary.
then see if you can hear/see the injector as it pulses.
take off the air filter to expose the injector get someone to turn over the car if the injector is spitting on turn over its fine then turn to your timming it is set at 8 degrees b.t.c with the distrib cap off make sure rotor arm is pointing to spark plug no 1 the markings on the wheel goes as follows their are five points point closest the bulkhead is 0 each point after that is four degrees so you need to set it at the third point for 8 degrees

Finally got the car running. It ended up been exactly what jds mini said a combination of the timing been way out and also the injector wasn't firing for some reason but got it sorted. So tidy up a few bits and bobs and she should be back n the road. Thanks everyone for all the help
