79 998cc Mini
Hey everyone,
over the last year i've been preparing a mini for mi G/F.
It was a birthday present for her on her last birthday nearly a year ago.
when bought it was originally brown and to be honest nothing special about it.
was bog standard in every way.
do the G//F went off to college to do a masters and we decided to give the car a little touch of what she wanted in a mini.
modernize it a little and update it but not over the top.
the car is to be used as a daily driver by her in the next few weeks when she sorts out insurance, and licences and things.
so as standard spec:
998cc a series engine still running on additive
54k on the clock, assumed to be original.
3 owners from new including herself
drum brakes all round.
as it stands:
resprayed in cherry red
electron ignition compliments of http://www.simonbbc.co.uk
servo out of 1990 installed.
7.5'' disk braked installed
1.25' spacers on back.
group 2 arches ( colour coded)
10 inch revolutions.
new carpet
new headliner ( will pay someone in future to put this on)
all new door cards
padded dash with walnut centre dash
centre console
etc, etc...
the car was baught with me know nothing about mini's and i assumed the mini was good and rust free..
but i was wrong and miss informed.
the car had some roof work done to it in the past and was never sealed right.
so that had to be re done.
a consequence of it not being sealed right meant that the a pillar had also been affected and that had to be replaced also.
the passanger floor panel had to be also patched.
the car is by no means perfect but it's a reasonable good exaplle.
planning on taking it off the road again when i have my next project finished and replace the drivers side full quarter and wing and inner wing to make car 100% rust free. colour will remain the same.
to say this was a learning curve is an understatement. allways knew the measure twice cut once rule, but didn't realise how important it was. after all panels welded and sealed had terrible trouble getting the drivers door to fit. still not happy with it. hence the coming off road in a a year or so to redo work. also the paint was done in a home garage with dust everywhere. not a bad paint job but not perect. this will be redone in a proper spray boot that i'm in the process of sourcing.
anyway here are some pics of car, from the day is was bought to how it stands now.
should be on road next week, just waiting of an inner door rubber to be delivered. to fit door window.
thanks to everyone on here who and helped me with this and supplied me with parts.
