My '98 Cooper has a Mini Sport 4-pot caliper set-up which was fitted by the previous owner. I've never been satisfied by the braking performance and I know what crap brakes are with the original 7" set-up on my Mk1 Cooper.
Having driving Twinjock's 00 Cooper last night, my brakes are very poor in comparison. Not dangerously poor as we did tow a caravan all the way to Switzerland and back with no problems but more of a braking effort. I need to shove the pedal more and use engine braking.
Have anyone experience of the MiniSport set-up? Could it just be down to pads?

mre than likely it'll be down to your pads, although giving them a good bleed again may help,

Have you adjusted the rear breaks within the last 1000 miles or so ?
Are they adjusted correctly ? did you inspect and sand/rough up the mating surfaces prior to fitting ?
Are your discs/pads glazed ?
Where is Lord Lucan ?

They're the pads that were on it when I bought it so can't answer those questions Neil. Haven't adjusted anything since before the IMM 5000 miles ago.
Perhaps it would be better to ask what brake pads are best for everyday road use?

Mintex 171 were a great pad but environmentally unfriendly.
They were replaced by Mintex 1144, not just as good but not far off.

mine were like this turned out pads and disks were contaminated got new pads and took off the disks bit of petrol on disks and lite her up it burns off any unwanted oils on the disks car would nearly stand on the front wheels

even standard 8.4" disks and single pots can be very, very good. I rebuilt a set (new pistons & seals), replaced the disks and put in new standard (ferrodo?) pads on the 91' 998 i had a few years ago. i could go from 30k to stopped in about 3 car lengths.
since then i've never had as good a brake set-up.

Lads all of ye are missing the point,since Billy has led a sheltered life with little or no hard work in the last 10 years all that is needed here is a couple of weeks in the gym building up them Starling legs he frequently flaunts and he will have it standing on its nose. 
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.

Believe it or not, they still haven't arrived at the motor factors. MG Metro pads aren't easy to come by in Ireland, it seems.
