Respraying and Rust treatment - help!

Post by BigRedMiniBoy »

Hi,

I need to get my mini treated for rust - and I'm thinking of getting it resprayed - I was quoted 2,000 and 1,500 from a few garages?

I don't really know if this is good or what, if anyone can let me know that'd be ace.

The rust appears to be around the door frame and in the boot and in all the other normal places - is it worthwhile getting this treated?

I certainly don't want to let it rust apart on me.

Cheers,

Steve B.

The cost of resprays has a lot to do with how much work the sprayer has to do, are you just going to give him the car and let him weld/prep/spray the car or do you intend striping and preping the car by yourself before hand.
When it comes to painting, good spray jobs cost good money.

I'd be inclined to just let someone do all the work for me to be honest :)

I'd have very little time to be doing it at the moment, and if I knew my money was being put to good use then I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it at all.

I had it with a mechanic last week and he said the rust wasn't something to worry about - but i'm not sure if i trust his judgement on that.

Would 1,500 be a decent price do you think?

even on the newest minis rust is something to be worried about because on most ,the process had already started before they left the factory

The mini,I accept no imitations

Yeah, I figured as much.

In the meantime folks, I spoke to a garage in Wexford (through a friend of mine down there) and I was quoted 500 clams for full rust treatment and a respray.

Now, It's a nixer - so I expect to be waiting a while to get the mini back.

But I don't mind if the jobs a good 'un and the price is right!

Thanks for the help.
Cheers,

Sounds dirt cheap to me.

If you get a look at this months Practical Classics magazine, there is an article about the effects of the "banning" of certain types of paint, it gives a rough costing on the amount of paint needed when spraying a Mini.

Mini Respray

Post by thewilleffect »

Hey

My mini was turned over on its side earlier this year

had to get the door reskinned, alot of dents taken out and got the whole car resprayed. Got a few other bits and pieces done also. All this cost €2500.

The quality of the job is superb, basically looks like a new car. If you're getting it sprayed use a garage that "bakes" the paint, not the two pack stuff.

The garage I used is in Crumlin.

If you're interested, post a pm
