1100 1980 mini special

Post by tommy1 »

hi guys iv just been offered a metallic rose 1980 special with 59000 on it, it needs the usual, sills doors and boot rust sorted but no major i dont think, does anyone have any ideas of how much they are worth as i cant find many on net and not in that colour, i dont want to be ripped off or rip the seller off as im not sure they have realistic views of cost, theyre looking for over 4000 but as i said it needs few bits done, ill take photos 2moro and get stan to put them up, cheers

Tommy,

No resto project is worth 4k in the current climate unless it was owned by Alec Issigonis himself. I bought my '98 Cooper for 1k and several others on the forum have recently bought late '90s cars for under €1500.

How to post photos is explained here: http://www.irishminis.ie/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6534

I have to agree with Billy on this one. While the Mini Special was one of the first special editions and in my opinion one of the nicest,4k for a Mini needing work is just not realistic these days.If it is complete and has not been butchered it would be a great project and Rose was my favourite colour in these. Here is one on www.carandclassic.co.uk with a non-standard sunroof and a tatty engine bay but the bodywork appears to be done.

As a side note look at what your €4000 could buy on that site.
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.

There were over 5000 of these sold so rarity should not bump up the price.
If it needs the bodywork mentioned ( plus whatever else that can't be seen) then it is maybe, if you really really want one of these, worth €1500.
Obviously the seller has their own opinion on what value to put on the car but it is hard to see anybody paying €4000 for this car these days.

Can I just add that the vinal was removed from the roof also which in my own personnal opinion is a big part in it being a limited edition

might be interesting to get a quote for the replacement & re-fitting of the vinyl roof. i couldn't suggest where you would get one.

There is a guy in the North that has done a couple of special roofs, and made a very nice job of them.. I'll try and get his number if you want it

In relation to the value of the car, I would have thought that 4k would be about the price of a nice Special sitting fully sorted, maybe a bit more for a really good one. They are the first limited edition mini apart from the Coopers that were ever produced, nice touches such as the original centre console and glove pocket/shelf would also be essential to making them worth the right sort of money
