De-bumpered
I was thinking of de-bumpering my 94 sprite and was wondering if anyone knows if i would run into trouble in regards to NCT and insurance. Also has anyone tried it? I wouldn't mind a few pointers. The other thing was, what are the best fitting replica sports pack arches. I cant really afford the genuine arches, if anyone has any knocking around id be happy to take them off of your hands

my mate done a de-bumpering job on a mini he is doing. it took him a day or 2 but he is good at anyhting like that, it looks very well i have to say but he done it because the lip on the front was rotten, so best thing to do was chop and weld in a piece, if u dont need to do it, then dont do it, its a good bit of work chopping welding filling sanding then painting, not cheap dude, but it does look savage, iv a set of arches there also , i paid 40 for them , so mamke me an offer for em an i mite sell them
If it's bigger than a mini it's not a mini

Can't see why you'd have trouble with N.C.T and as for insurance you may have to declare it but its not really much of a modification?...... As purplehaze said, there is a lot of work involved and if you can't do it yourself its alot of labour for someone else to do it....
Getting old is a must but growing up is optional!

the only hard one is the rear one,
the front bumper lip is just a thin panel spot welded onto the front panel,
i took this off a few of my minis in a matter of minutes just using a vice grips, then just sand/file down where the welds were and paint, whole front should only take an hour or two,
the rear is where it gets involving,
you have to cut the lip a bit at a time and then weld the panels back together where you have cut as the bumper lip on the rear is also the panel that joins the rear valence, the boot floor and the rear panel together, get it wrong and one or more of the panels will flex and probably not fit back together, this is not to say that the panels will line up for you in the first place as i found out on one or two minis!

Cheers for the advice lads. I think I'm gonna stick with the bunpers for now. If I ever get round to learning how to weld i'l do it then
